About the event
This holiday season, Warm Up America has teamed up with the Hallmark Channel for a blanket project called Stitched with Love. They are collecting knit or crochet rectangles that will be joined into blankets and donated to various women's domestic violence shelters in Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas. Walther Handmade will collect rectangles throughout the end of December, when we will gather all donated rectangles and ship them to Warm Up America together.
We're kicking off this project at this week's Sit'n'Stitch! There are rectangle patterns for all skill levels - so whether you are an experienced knitter or brand new to the craft, you can make a section!
Here's some more info:
What should I bring? Yarn and matching hook or needles, tape measure
We will have: Snacks! Extra scissors, extra yarn if needed, and patterns
How will I know what to make?
For the Stitched with Love project, the Hallmark Channel has created 4 patterns: 2 knitting and 2 crochet. Each craft has 2 options: solid color and Hallmark Channel icon.Â
You can also make your own pattern, as long as the finished rectangle measures 7" x 9".
What type of yarn should I use? Yarn should be machine washable and dryable. If you plan on following the Hallmark patterns, then you should use medium weight (#4) acrylic yarn.Â
Where do I get the pattern? We will print off the Hallmark Stitched with Love patterns and have them available in-store. If you want to download or print one off beforehand, you can find the pattern here: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/stitched-with-love
What if I don't finish my rectangle on Wednesday? Walther Handmade will collection sections through Dec. 29th, so you can  always drop off your section by the store. We will mail all of the  sections on Dec. 30
I just learned how to knit/crochet. Can I really do this? Yes! The single-crochet and garter stitches are perfect for making rectangles! You can also review basic crochet and knitting techniques here: Knitting & Crochet Instructions
Can I just keep working on my own project? Yes! No pressure to participate in this project. We just want to get together and spend time with our fiber friends! I know it's a crazy time of year for crafters, and we need all  the time we can get to work on stuff. If you want to bring your current  #WIP and keep stitching, please do!
