About the event

Learn to make your first shawl in our Knitting Next Steps class! If you have learned to knit, and are ready to tackle your first "big" project, this is the class for you!

In this class, we'll be making a crescent-shaped shawl. Light and breezey, the end shawl will be perfect for cool spring and summer evenings!

During the first class, we will learn the essential techniques for making the shawl, review the pattern together, and practice new stitches. Students can come back the following Saturdays (June 17 & 24 & July 1) to keep working on their shawls together and go over any questions! On July 1, we'll also review how to bind off and ways to "block" the shawl to keep it looking nice!

You will learn:

  • How to knit with circular needles
  • How to increase with the YO (yarn over) method
  • Not to be scared of lightweight yarn!

Class includes:

  • 1 set of US 7 circular needles (fixed)
  • Shawl Pattern
  • 2 hours of initial instruction + 2 follow up sessions

You will need to bring: 100 grams (approximately 400+ yards) of fingering-weight yarn.

We encourage you to buy your yarn with us, to make sure you use a weight/kind that will work with the needles and pattern. Students who purchase their class yarn from Walther Handmade will receive 10% off! Please make arrangements to purchase yarn prior to the class.

Optional Materials: If you own a "How to Knit" (e.g. Skill Set) book that you received during a Knitting 101 class, please bring this with you! You may also need a stitch marker, point protectors, and scissors. All of these are available for purchase at the shop!

Preparation: Yarn should be wound into a ball or cake prior to class. We cannot wind yarn during class.

Skills Needed: Interested participants should know how to cast on with the long-tail method, bind off, and garter stitch.

**This is not a "Learn to Knit" class.**

Skill Level: Beginner

Dates: Saturday, June 10 with additional (optional) sessions of June 17 & 24 and July 1.

Times: 10 AM all days

Instructor: Jillian Walther

Class Atmosphere: We like to cultivate a positive, casual atmosphere - be ready to learn, ready to talk, and ready to make new friends!

Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 15 years old to register. Participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult, who has also registered for the class.

Cancellation & Refund: Participants will only receive a full refund if they give at least a 48 hour (2 day) cancellation notice. This gives us time to notify other interested students on the "waitlist."

Participants who do not give a 48 hour notice will not receive a full refund and forfeit all class materials.

Class fee cannot be transferred to a future class or other product.

Classes are subject to cancellation due to low registration or other unforeseen (ie "Act of God") circumstances. In these instances, registrants will be notified and fully refunded.
