About the event

Let's sail through summer with a Knit-A-Long!

Join us every Saturday in July at 1 PM as we work together through the Piper T-Shirt by Kelbourne Woolens. If you have never knit a sweater before, this is an easy introductory pattern. If you are a pro at sweaters and just want a non-stressful project to work on, then you'll enjoy this breezy knit! At the end, you'll have a super cute, summer t-shirt. Everyone will be awed by your flawless fashion and no no one has to know that it was so simple to make!

We're doing this Knit-A-Long as a kit, to celebrate one of our newest yarns: Skipper!

Your kit will include:

  • Printed "Piper T-Shirt" pattern
  • Kelbourne Woolens project bag
  • 6 Skeins of Skipper (Depending on size and gauge, pattern calls for 6-8 skeins. If you need additional skeins for this project, you'll get 10% off!)
  • When purchasing your ticket, you'll be asked to choose your preferred color of Skipper. You can view currently available colors here.

You will need:

  • Needles: 2 x 24" US 3 circular, 1 x 24" US 4 circular, 1 x 16" US 4 circular
  • Stitch markers
  • Stitch holder cord or waste yarn
  • Tapestry needle

Required skills:

  • Knitting & purling

You'll also learn / practice:

  • How to "pick up" stitches
  • 3 needle bind off

Sizing Notes:

Finished bust size is 36.5 (42.75, 48.75, 54.75, 61)". Sweater is designed to be worn with at least 4" positive ease - this means it is designed to be loose fitting. If you prefer a tighter-fitting sweater, then you may want to consider going down a size.

You better swatch:

Cotton yarns tends to grow longer after it's been wet blocked. This can affect the final length of your sweater. If you want to make a swatch and wet-block it first to make sure your gauge is correct, come by the shop to get a starter skein for swatching!

Construction Notes:

Piper is knit in one piece from the bottom up. The yoke is then worked back and forth and the shoulders are bound off using a 3-Needle Bind Off. The sleeves are formed by then picking up stitches and worked in the round.

Class Notes:

  • This is not a "Learn to Knit" class. Students should know how to cast on, knit, purl, and be comfortable reading patterns and basic knitting instructions.
  • We will tackle a different part of the Sweater each meeting. If you want to follow along, then you may have homework each week.
  • If you want to go at your own pace - then that's fine too! The main idea is to enjoy knitting together!
