In Knitted Socks East and West, Judy Sumner introduces us to a whole new world of knitting possibilities, reminding us how intriguing cultures can be when explored by way of their stitches.

Knitted Socks East and West presents a collection of 30 exception sock designs featuring Japanese stitch patterns, many never before seen by most Western knitters. Each of the designs is named after an intriguing aspect of Japanese life. For example, the leg of the Origami crew socks appears to fold in and out; the Sumo slipper socks are named after the heavy, organic movement of the cables in their thick yarn; and the Ikebana knee socks, inspired by an ancient form of flower arranging, highlight a textural floral design.

Step-by-step text as well as easy-to-read charts are included for each project, along with illustrated instructions for the new Japanese techniques presented.
