Keystone is the newest yarn from Kelbourne Woolens, a "sister yarn" to Germantown. Built for real-life and made to last, Keystone is a classic, easy-care worsted weight yarn that perfectly blends practicality with purpose.
Designed for knitters and crocheters who want dependable quality without compromising on values, Keystone is crafted from a thoughtful blend of 70% deadstock acrylic (fiber abandoned at our mill's warehouse), and 30% North American wool. The result? A soft, sturdy, and versatile yarn that’s just as ideal for baby garments and dog sweaters as it is for heirloom afghans or community outreach projects.

As an LYS, I look to stock yarns that are high-quality and unique from what you might find at a "big box" store. I also look for yarns that have a purpose or a story, taking time to research the companies behind the yarn and where/how that yarn is produced. I often tell people that we stock "good yarns you can feel good about," and Keystone checks all of those boxes!
Keystone is proudly 100% made in the USA, supporting domestic manufacturing and bypassing tariffs. By using surplus deadstock materials, this yarn helps reduce waste in the textile industry and gives new life to existing resources. Keystone is a yarn that works hard for your projects and makes practical use of what’s already available.
With Keystone, you don't have choose between affordability and quality. Keystone is a high-quality acrylic blend yarn that gives you excellent value and an even better yarn. Whether you are a seasoned
crafter or a beginner, poised to stitch a family heirloom or service project, Keystone meets you where you are.

FAQs about Keystone:
Where is Keystone Made?
Keystone is proudly 100% made in the USA, dyed and spun in North Carolina.
Where does the name "Keystone" come from?
A keystone is a stone at the summit of an arch, locking the whole together. This symbol fit perfectly with Kelbourne Woolen's mission to create an accessible, sustainable, practical yarn. Plus, as a Philadelphia based company, KW in the "Keystone" state of Pennsylvania!
What does "Deadstock Acrylic" mean? Why is that important?
Deadstock Acrylic refers to abandoned or left-over fiber
When sourcing the raw materials for an easy-care, affordable yarn, Kelbourne Woolens took great care when considering the acrylic.
Working directly with the mill that makes Germantown,
we were able to utilize more than 59,000 pounds of acrylic fiber abandoned in their warehouse. This is fiber that would otherwise have gone to waste or ended up in a landfill.
Why N. American Wool?
Dyeing raw fiber is just one step in the multi-part process of manufacturing Germantown. By blending the same wool that is used in Germantown with the deadstock acrylic, KW is able to extend the use of the fiber, which in turn, reduces waste and increases supply chain efficiency.
Is Keystone machine washable?
YES! Even though the wool is not treated (e.g. not superwash), the blend lends itself beautifully to washing in the machine.
