Showcasing the Best Qualities of Alpaca: The Alpaca Yarn Company

The Alpaca Yarn Company Logo

Beth Lutz has been passionate about Alpacas and the fiber they produce for over 20 years. As a lifelong knitter and more recent spinner, adding these fiber animals to her farm was a perfect fit.

Expanding beyond the farm, The Alpaca Yarn Company was founded to

share the fiber of these fantastic animals. Alpaca fiber is hypo-allergenic, meaning that even people with wool sensitivities can wear it. It is also a hollow-core fiber, so it keeps one warmer than wool when one needs to be warm, but breathes when one needs to be cool.

All of The Alpaca Yarn Company's yarns are designed by their small staff and many are hand-dyed in their facility in Pennsylvania. They have created over 100 dyed colors across 10 different lines of yarn. They distribute these yarns to alpaca farms and knitting/yarn shops all over the country.

Being lifelong fiber enthusiasts, Beth and her team look to develop yarns that they themselves are thrilled to knit, crochet, or weave with. Under their watchful eyes and discerning fingers, the irresistible fiber of alpacas is transformed into yarns that are both luxurious and accessible, allowing you to make masterpieces that can be enjoyed every day. The Alpaca Yarn Company yarns, kits and patterns have been created with the greatest of care to showcase the best qualities of alpaca fiber.

When looking ahead to this year's Great Tennessee Yarn Tour (GTYT), I wanted to try and book a trunk show with The Alpaca Yarn Company. I have stocked some of their yarns in the shop previously and wanted to find a way to share their yarns again. Talking about the GTYT with Beth led to talking about the "exclusive mini-skeins" that every shop carries. Almost immediately, Beth said, "We could do those for you." It was an answer to prayer!

Over the next few weeks, we discussed different ideas for colors and dye techniques. I knew I wanted yellow - to match the yellow door of the shop! I also liked the idea of daisies, because the daisy is the birth flower for the month of April, the month my daughter was born in. Beth experimented with a few different options, and we agreed on one that blended rich golden yellows with touches of white.

I picked out the name "Coming up Daisies," because the yarn is so bright and cheerful. If a skein of yarn can spread some positivity and joy, I think this may be it!

Auspiciously, one of Beth's favorite alpacas was also named Daisy. ❤️ She shared this picture with me:

It really warms my heart, because this little mini-skein carries 2 stories ~ that of Daisy the Alpaca and also of our own little "Daisy" that was born this year!

For those of you who are participating in the GTYT, these mini-skeins are only available at the shop! I hope you'll be able to come by and pick one up, to bring a bit of sunshine and Daisies with you, wherever you go!

We are hosting a Trunk Show with the Alpaca Yarn Company thru August 20. This trunk show features a variety of their yarns, from 100% alpaca (so soft!) to blends to kits. Be sure to stop by the shop and pick up some of this irresistible fiber before it goes away!
