Now Introducing: Wild Sage Wool

I am beyond excited to announce a new line of yarns arriving at the shop: Wild Sage Wool!

Wild Sage Wool is a brand new yarn line from Red Hill Fiber, a fiber mill based in Southern Indiana, and Indigo Guinea Fiber, an indie-dyer also based in Indiana.

You may remember Indigo Guinea Fiber (aka Lindsey), because she brought her yarn truck to our neck of the woods last summer during the Great Tennessee Yarn Tour!

I want to swim in a pool of Lindsey's vibrantly colored yarn, so when I found out she was the dyer behind Wild Sage Wool, I knew it was going to be something special!

Since Walther Handmade opened its doors in 2022, I have strived to feature yarns and fibers that were grown and/or processed in the USA. It has been important to me to support the American wool and fiber industry, even if in just a small way. One of my favorite yarn lines that we have stocked since the beginning is Mountain Meadow Wool.

Mountain Meadow Wool is the largest full-service mill in the American West. They work with reputable ranches in Wyoming and Montana, so all of its fiber is 100% American grown. In fact, when you buy a skein of yarn from MMW, the label tells you the ranch from whence the fiber came!

What does this mill out West have to do with Wild Sage Wool?

Mountain Meadow Wool is the first step in what becomes Wild Sage Wool yarn. The fiber is collected and scoured at Mountain Meadow Wool before it gets sent to Indiana for spinning and dyeing. In a recent post, Wild Sage Wool says "We focus on wool that’s sourced, spun, and hand-dyed right here in the U.S."

Every skein of Wild Sage Wool yarn starts with 100% American fibers, grown on domestic ranches and processed at a family-run business. It then goes to Red Hill Fiber in Indiana, where it gets skillfully spun into yarn and then onto Indigo Guinea Fiber, where it is creatively and craftily hand-dyed. Finally, these skeins are sent to local yarn shops and hopefully find a "forever home" with you, the fiber enthusiast!

. From ranch families to family-owned mills to an indie-dyer to a locally-owned yarn shop, each skein is the embodiment of how small businesses support other small businesses. When you purchase a skein of Wild Sage Wool, you are getting so much more than yarn, you are becoming a part of a grand journey.

I am so pleased to be able to offer this yarn at my shop! I hope you will join me on some grand stitching adventures!

This yarn is available for pre-order at WaltherHandmade.com or you can shop in person starting Saturday, May 31!
