We recently got something new in the shop that I am so excited to share!
Say hello to Velluto by Alize Yarns. This is a super-bulky (#6) yarn that is also super soft and plushy!
This is a great all-around yarn for everything from baby blankets to "chonky" amigurumi to housewares, such as blankets and pillow cases. Available in an array of bright colors, there's something to match every palette and style.
Also, did I mention it was soft?
Seriously, I could just hold a skein all day.
Alize Velluto is made out of micro-polyester, which is essentially a very fine, updated version of polyester. This also means that it is machine washable and dryable - making it easy-peasy to take care of!
Each skein is 100g / 74 yards and works up super quick, so it's great when you need a last minute project! To make a baby blanket, you'll need about 5 skeins.
I decided to test Velluto out on a chonky amigurumi project. I found this pattern for "Marshmallow Kittie" by Trang Luu on Etsy. It called for 2 skeins of super-chunky yarn: a full skein of the main color and a quarter skein for the contrast color.
Due to differences in yarn brands and gauge, I ended up using 2 skeins of Alize Velluto for the main color and a partial skein for the contrast color. I did use a larger hook than the pattern recommended, so my kitty turned out larger than estimated.
After using it for this project, my review is: Alize Velluto is great for these types of projects! It does not shed, which can be common with these types of yarns. I also like that it isn't too stiff, so the final project is absolutely huggable (great if you're making items for kids) and has a very soft texture.
Even though the yarn is rated as super-bulky, you can easily use a smaller hook for tight amigurumi projects. I used a 5.0 mm hook for this project, but think I could size down to 4.5 mm for future projects.
